What You're Doing Wrong Not Having a CRM as an Influencer

Jan 22, 2019

Hey there!

Do you have a CRM? Do you know what a CRM is?

No worries if you don't! But you definitely need to as a blogger and influencer. A CRM is a Customer Relationship Management tool - it's where you store all of your contacts - brand contacts, conference contacts, collaboration contacts, PR contacts, etc.

Why do you need one?

You need a CRM because, to most companies, you are just another Influencer on their list of hundreds or even thousands of Influencers. You don't want to just be Influencer #389 in a long line of other women hoping to get a brand deal with Company X. You want to stand out. To be different. To be special. To be the one Company X chooses to work with on that huge launch.

How do you do this?

By building relationships. Yes, this may seem like a no-brainer to many of you, but it's crucial. See, you can't control how often a brand reaches out to you or if you're their go-to gal when they have a new campaign unless you make an effort to stand out.

Follow along with me on this... Why are Influencers even a "thing"? Because people buy from someone they like, someone they see as trustworthy and value their opinion. Someone like you. I'm going to buy something my best friend recommends wayy before I shell out my hard-earned dollars to some random Instagram ad of a necklace on a headless model.

Brands are people, too. No matter how large the company or organization, it's people that make it run and make the decisions on which Influencers they want to work with.

By having a CRM, you are able to keep track of these people.

And, most importantly, you are able to create relationships with them. Putting all of your contacts into a CRM allows you to see all of your contacts at X organization, when was the last time you spoke with them, did you send them a thank-you note for the freebie they mailed you, do they have any big product launches coming up that you should ask about, what was Sharon at ABC Company's dog's name, etc. You get the point.

There's literally NO way to store all of that information in your head and keep it straight and organized. Keeping in constant contact with the people at these companies will make you top-of-mind and their go-to gal when it comes to their next project.

There are so many options.

There are hundreds of CRM options. A couple that I recommend are OnePage CRM and Dubsado (this is much more advanced, but I use it for my own business -affiliate link with discount, or use code ORGANIZEDINFLUENCER at checkout).

In our signature program, Smarter Not Harder: 3-Day Workweeks for Millennial Entrepreneurs©, I include an excel downloadable CRM as well! Bottom line is to just start somewhere by collecting all of your contacts in one place and making a promise to yourself to follow up with them regularly. You will be stunned with the response that you get. I'm already so excited for you! Get after it, girlfriend!

Always cheering you on,
